Samsung phones remain one of the premium phones you can ever find in the smartphone market, which usually attracts high prices to buy. No one wants to lose such a phone to theft, the question is, if this ever happens, is there a way you can track your phone and find it?

What is perhaps more worrisome is the inability to find the right tool that can help you at that instant when you have lost or misplaced your phone. In this article, I will be sharing with you what you need to do before and after your Samsung phone has been stolen that can increase your chance of finding the phone.

Samsung phones are a target by thieves

The high price tag being a premium smartphone means, that the resale value is very high. This is one sole reason thieves continue to target these premium phones. Perhaps what is more disturbing is how easy they get away with this activity every single time.

Samsung Mobile as a company completely focuses on giving customers a good experience through their robust features which cut across the use and feel of the phone. They have also in recent years made a good attempt to improve the security of Samsung phones and protect it against malware. They even went as far as creating a find my phone app.

With all these efforts done by Samsung, the question is, why do people still get away with steal a Samsung phone, while phone owners remain helpless. It is simple, all tracking security features completely rely on internet connectivity to be able to work well and share location amongst other tracking information.

Thieves know this well, they simply just remove the Gmail account connect to the phone and also disconnect the phone from the internet before eventually formatting the phone after some hours

The question is; what can you still do to track your stolen Samsung phone?

What are the things you must do before the incident?

If you ever want to stand a chance of finding your Samsung phone when stolen, there are certain steps you must have taken before the incident.  These steps will increase your chances of ever finding the phone if in a situation where your phone was stolen.

Here are the steps you must take before your phone is stolen;

  1. Find a tracker that can work offline (without internet); Most tracking companies such as Google Find my Phone depends solely on internet connectivity on the phone among other things.  However, in Nigeria, you will agree with me that, internet coverage is not extensive, besides, people turn off internet connectivity easily.

To date, the only tracking solution that can successfully track any phone even without internet connectivity is the Pins Mobile Security application with a phone number tracking feature that can assist you to track any phone through SMS command which returns its exact location every single time.

As a Samsung phone user, I strongly recommend you have this installed on your phone if you ever want to be able to track and find your phone

  • Ensure you activate your phone lock, in the case of a theft incident, time is of the essence. The more time you can buy for yourself to track and find the pone, the better it will be for you. That is why you must ensure that you have systems in place to protect your financial information on your phone before the incident.

    As simple as it is to lock your phone with either Pin, Password, or pattern, this is an important step that you must take every single time, this will delay or completely prevent access into your phone data. If you are wondering what will happen if they try to insert your SIM into another phone to use it, the best protection for this is to also have a Pin Card Lock code.

  • Ensure you set up and activate the Google find my phone. Though the chances that it will help you if you use a Samsung phone is even less than 5% it still worth trying, you may be lucky that it is active enough before the phone is formatted.

How can you track your stolen Samsung phone?

Now that the phone has been stolen, what can you do? This is the biggest question people ask me all the time.  If you have in the past installed a tracking solution that can work without the internet, then this journey should be very easy for you.

However, I understand that many people who would be reading this post didn’t come across this piece of information before the incident. If you didn’t install a tracking solution, below are critical steps you have to take;

  1. Login into your Google finds my phone dashboard to check the last set of information captured on the find my phone app. If you find recent information there, this could help you instantly to locate the phone.

To login to google find my phone, follow these steps;

  • On any internet-enabled device (either phone or laptop) open a web browser and go to Google find my device (Click here), this will require that you log in with your Gmail password and username.

    Here you can see the last captured location of the phone, and you will also have an option of erasing all data on the phone.
  • Report to the police; this is the official channel for any theft issue. The only thing is, your chances remain low as police do not have the infrastructure to do detailed tracking. They completely rely on assistance from a telecommunication company to relate the last known location of the device. This service is not available to everyone, in fact, according to the law, except in a criminal case, authorized by the court, police are not allowed to get this information from Telcos companies.

Conclusion

If you want to be able to track your Samsung phone successfully, one good favour you can do for yourself is to ensure you have a security application installed. If you rely only on Google to find my phone or IMEI tracker, you may be disappointed in the end. I strongly recommend that you install the Pins Mobile Security application on your phone especially, if your phone has not been stolen yet, this completely protects you if it ever happens.
